Baltic Amber teething necklace... do they really help?

Question

I'm a FTM and my son is almost four months old. He's been teething for a while but just 3 days ago he started being physically in pain at night. Today was the first day he was in so much pain. I've read about the necklace but does it really work? My son eats everything so is it a choking hazard? Thank you

I think teething necklaces are a hazard personally and have been documented cases of babies dying from them when pieces have broken off. I have one for my son to fidget with when I carry him but very very very rarely does he chew on it bc it just worries me there is a risk of that. But to each their own

No they don’t. It’s a scam and unsafe. Many pediatricians don’t recommend them. They are dangerous. 
Speak with your pediatrician about options they prefer you to try.

I feel like it’s too much of a choking hazard not worth using I just give him whatever makes him happy to chew and using that is my thumb or his toy.

There is no plausible method for them to work. Amber has to be heated to a high temperature for anything to be released from it. 
Maybe they make parents feel better and baby picks up on that, but amber necklaces don’t actually do anything.

My SIL has been making Baltic Amber necklaces for about 10 years and this is what her shop says about the necklace for teething.

I believe they work. She made me one that was for healthy ears, and I’ve been wearing it for almost a year. It has helped drastically. I used to get ear infections every other month, or more. I haven’t had any since I got my necklace. 
As far as everyone saying it’s a choking hazard, it’s really not as long as you follow the guidelines and get the correct size for your child. As soon as she has time to make it, my 6 week old will have one.

We have one and I believe they work, placebo or not, my son pops teeth out without me even knowing when he’s wearing his. I took it off a couple months ago and lost it and in that time he got a tooth and it was awful, he didn’t sleep at night, he wouldn’t eat, he was miserable all day🤷🏼‍♀️ coincidence, maybe? I’ve since found it and he’s been wearing it continuously, he just got 4 molars two at a time and I had no idea! 
If you’re going to get one do your research and just be safe with it. I wrapped it around his ankle for sleep, and I never let him chew on it. The beads are tied on one by one so if it was to break only one bead would fall off, and they are small enough he couldn’t choke on it if he swallow it. He’s never left unsupervised so I’m confident he’s safe with it! 
There are if course other methods to relieve teething if you don’t feel comfortable getting one, there’s silicone teethers, water teethers you can cool in the fridge, teething tablets, teething gels (w/o any numbing agent), Camilia teething drops, and Tylenol. :)

We use an anklet... I wasn't convinced they worked but I swear by them now! You can really tell when she doesn't have it on... Also having an anklet means it will never go in there mouth... I used one for 2 years with my eldest and so far 3 months with my youngest and we have never had one snap. But always get one that has knots inbetween each bead, meaning IF it did snap all the beads don't come off for your baby to pick up

To help with teething good ol’ teething toys work like a charm an I personally used frozen rags (wet them with water, ring it out, and put in the freezer). My daughter loved the frozen rags and it helped her a lot. If you notice your baby is in a lot of discomfort you can try Tylenol or Motrin ( Motrin only if baby is over 6 months). Motrin helped my daughter a lot.

I would never get a teething necklace for my son, they are a hazard and just a placebo. What I did was give him camilla drops when he seemed to be in pain and let him chew on a teether like this one pictured.
