What age to start sleepovers with friends?

So my daughter is 8 and a half and I'm starting to think about what to do for her next birthday party, when do you guys think is old enough to start having sleepovers with friends?

I’m a social worker and I’ve seen some pretty sick things in my career. Unfortunately I really doubt that I will ever feel comfortable allowing my children to have sleep overs. Maybe that makes me the “lame” mom, but my child’s wellbeing outweighs everything else for me.

A lot of parents won't do sleepovers anymore. I'm not sure if they will be a thing for my daughter, sadly. But when she starts asking, I suppose. I had my first one around 12

i had my first sleepover for my 6th or 7th birthday. i had them and went to them pretty frequently until about 8th grade. i think 8 is a good age. the world is scary today, but i can’t see myself not letting my daughter have sleepovers or go to them. it’s important to get to know the family well. i live in a small town so everybody knows everybody and we never had a problem.

I think it depends on with who more than the age. Obviously im more than happy to have friends stay here, but for my 9-year-old to go anywhere overnight I have to know the parents. Fortunately my daughter’s best friend is the step-daughter of one of the teachers at her school who I’ve known since I was a kid (perks of small town living), so I’m comfortable with her staying there and she’s been having sleepovers with them since she was 7. Some of her other friends on the other hand, I’d rather them stay here but she never asks to have them stay over anyway. I’ll cross that bridge when we get there. I think it’s important to do what you’re comfortable with and use your best judgment, and definitely talk to your kids about what is and isn’t acceptable before they start sleeping at other peoples’ homes. The more prepared they are to face certain situations, the better...however difficult it may be to have the conversation.

I would allow her to have sleepovers at our house only. I wouldn’t allow her to sleep over anywhere else. My daughter is 8 1/2 yrs old and only sleeps over my sisters house.

I had my 1st sleepovers at 6 around my best friends house she lives a few doors away from me, my mum know her mum. Without my mum meeting parents it was in the 1st year of high school age 12.
