ACNE: Tips, tricks, and general advice???

I’ve dealt with acne ALL MY LIFE. I hate it. It’s a huge insecurity for me. I feel like I look revolting. I’ve tried prescription medication. I’ve tried proactive and every other “tv acne solution”. I’ve done face masks and no makeup and moisturizers and serums and cleansers of every type but nothing seems to work for my skin, not even birth control could get my acne under control. ANY TIPS?

first and foremost, talk to your dermatologist to review your options. no skincare routine is one size fits all. i went through a ton of trial and error with my dermatologist before finding the right routine 
btw don't overload your skin with products. i started with cetaphil, tea tree oil, and moisturiser. i added the rest one by one, months apart. it might get worse before it gets better sometimes. i will also note that some of the products i use are a bit expensive but i find it worth it bc a little goes a long way & it's what works FOR ME. between each product (except cetaphil) i let the product fully absorb into my skin before moving on to the next product.
day time: 
1. cetaphil daily cleanser ($10/16 oz)
2. la mer the tonic ($95/6.7 oz)
3. sunday riley CEO glow oil ($80/1.18 oz)
4. sunday riley good genes lactic acid treatment ($158/1.7 oz)
5. la prairie day cream [spf 30] ($255/1.7 oz) 
night time: 
1. cetaphil daily cleanser 
2. trader joe's tea tree oil ($15/pack of 2, 50 pads/ea) 
3. sunday riley luna oil ($80/1.18 oz)
4. sunday riley ufo oil ($80/1.18 oz)
5. andalou purple carrot night cream ($14/1.7 oz) 
weekly: 
-indian clay mask (~$15??)
bed: 
-cooled eye mask 
-silk pillowcases (wash them at LEAST once a week)

Make sure you’re washing your face twice a day and using a good moisturizer. That can be trial and error until you find one that works for you. I highly recommend PanOxyl cleanser and first aid beauty moisturizers. I use first aid beauty hyaluronic acid hydrating primer as my moisturizer. In addition to washing your face twice a day, make sure you’re washing your pillowcases every week. Make sure you’re drinking lots of water, and not a lot of processed foods. Make sure you have a way to destress, such as meditation or another form of relaxation or talk therapy. And last but not least, if you have HSV1, it could be the culprit. People with HSV1 tend to break out with acne more than people who don’t have HSV1. So in that case, talk to your dermatologist about that.￼￼￼￼￼￼￼

I was in the same boat. I suffered from horrible acne starting in the 5th grade. I even started wearing foundation to hide it. I tried everything under the sun and all the normal medications dermatologist would prescribe for acne but NOTHING ever worked.... I ended up going on accutane my junior year in high school. I’m now acne free. I will still get the occasional pimple here and there, but I will take those any day. I know many people are scared to take accutane due to the side effects, but I was closely monitored while on it and the only side effect I had was very very dry skin.

These 2 together are sooo good also you need to wash your hair often ( if you don't ) and you also need to wash your sheets and pillow cases often ( if you don't ) I would also recommend using a moisturizer because these 2 products will dry your skin out if you don't use a moisturizer

Have you ever had your hormones tested? I’ve had acne my whole life and I had to get testing done for TTC reasons and it came back I have a higher testosterone level. My doctor said that can result in acne and if I wanted to, to see an endocrinologist.

Go to an esthetician’s/spa and get micro abrasion done or micro needling. Google it. My friend struggled with acne and scars and she found good results with these. They will also recommend products for your skin type.
