Honestly whenever YOU are ready BUT for anyone under/around 13 I’d suggest 1. Learning as much about your anatomy as possible before and 2. Realizing that there is a risk of toxic shock and with tampons comes a responsibility to be mindful of that. When I was 13 I still had to be reminded to do pretty basic things Bc my head was in the clouds 24/7 so it wouldn’t have been the best idea for me then.

there’s no age to begin to start using tampons just try it out when you are comfortable. it may feel weird at first but the first time i did it i freaked out, which is normal. i watched a lot of youtube videos on the toilet then i used a lite tampon. since then, i’ve used pads and tampons, pads at night and tampons at the beginning of my period and towards the end of it, pads. the most important thing is to know that at first it was kind of scary but it’s not going to stay stuck in you, just be informed on using tampons and make sure your comfortable:)

When you feel comfortable using them I never did and always used pads until I went on the depo shot and didn’t have a period for 3 years and I honestly didn’t start using tampons until I was 19 and that was after I had my first baby

As soon as your period starts you are technically able to use them. I wouldn’t recommend for girls under 12 because your bodies are usually too small to use them comfortably. If you’ve never used one before, I’d recommend starting with the lightest ones you can find. Tampax pearl makes a sport tampon (active light) that are allegedly very small but leak proof. If your flow is heavy you may need a larger size.
