Cervical checks at doctors appointments?

I’m wondering if doctors typically start doing cervical checks at 17+ weeks? Mine hasn’t yet, and I don’t know if it’s something I should ask for. We had a miscarriage at 16 weeks with our last pregnancy. My doctor assured me that it wasn’t because I have an incompetent cervix, but in the back of my mind I’m still worried about it now that I’m 17 weeks. I like my doctor, but I’ve noticed that she doesn’t always do things that other doctors do. I have my 18 week appointment next week, and I’m wondering if I should ask for one if she doesn’t do it. Or if they’re not typically done. Thanks!

No. U wouldn’t need one until the last month of pregnancy, maybe the last couple weeks. There’s no reason for one before that. They can measure ur cervix in the ultrasound and they will do that when u get the anatomy scan around 20 weeks

They normally won't do a physical check that early, but possibly an ultrasound check if there's concerns. With this pregnancy, I had my cervix checked via ultrasound at 13 weeks, 21 weeks, and 24 weeks. My midwife was originally going to start physical checks at 32 weeks, but decided we'll wait until 36 weeks.

They typically don’t do them until about 36 weeks unless there is a reason to do it earlier. I had one with my last pregnancy at 18 weeks but only because I had bleeding so they did a physical exam and an internal ultrasound to find the cause of bleeding. After that I didn’t until 36 weeks. If you are concerned, definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns and maybe she will check to ease your mind or give a better explanation on how she knows it was not an incompetent cervix last time. Did you go in to labor at 16 weeks or could they not find a heartbeat? If they couldn’t find a heartbeat but you hadn’t gone in to labor it wouldn’t be an incompetent cervix it would be a missed miscarriage. An incompetent cervix causes you to go in to labor prematurely, but I’d think the baby would still have a heartbeat until it passes either during labor or shortly after because it is just to early to survive. My doc hasn’t checked at all and I’m 38 weeks

I've only had 2 cervical checks one at 34 weeks with an intrauterine ultrasound bcuz I was having mild contractions and one at 36 weeks to make sure I was dilated yet. I'm almost 38 weeks now and unsure if I'll have another or not.

You won’t get a cervical check till like 36 weeks and above. I haven’t heard of any doctors doing cervical checks that early. If you are concerned ask to see if they can do ultrasounds to keep an eye on baby and you

Like a physical cervical check? I didn't get that until a couple days before I gave birth, at my 39 weeks appointment. But she did use an intravaginal ultrasound wand at every appointment to check the length of my cervix. 
I think physical checks can introduce bacteria and cause infections so doctors don't really do them anymore. Also I'm not sure she can check the length of your cervix with her fingers if it's closed.
