Cluster feeding?

When does it happen and what is it exactly? She’s 3 weeks old and is eating 4 oz every 3 ish hours but an hour later she’ll want another like half an oz. is this normal? I don’t want to over feed her 😬

Clusterfeeding is when baby eats a little and often, some will nurse nonstop for what feels like days, they do this to boost your supply (draining your breast often triggers more production). It typically happens when it's a growth spurt and/or leap, and will last 2-7 days.

Also bottle fed babies go through this, it's preprogrammed in them. But instead of nursing more they are just given more.

It can happen at any time in the newborn stage. Usually it’s when they are back to back feeding. That doesn’t necessarily sound like cluster feeding. At that young of an age you should feed her whenever she acts hungry. She may not be able to go 3 hours between each feeding.

I don’t think you can over feed her if you’re breastfeeding. My baby boy ate so much I would worry too but was told to just go with the flow; he’s now a happy healthy 20 month old 😸
