Was I wrong?
Last May my sister graduated from high school. Her high school graduation happened to be on the exact same day and time of my fiance’s grandmas funeral. My fiancé and I were both extremely close to his grandma and my fiancé was not taking it well... he was very depressed. I figured that my fiancé would need me there with him as support more than my sister would need me at her graduation since my parents, other siblings and grandparents would be attending the graduation. I told my family I would have to miss it but that I could meet up with them for the dinner celebration afterwards plus of course go to her graduation party the following weekend. My family (mainly my mom and sister) were FURIOUS. They told me my fiancé isn’t family until we get married and that I have family “obligations” I need to tend to. I ended up going to the funeral and meeting them at the dinner where they ignored me the whole time. At my sister’s party I gave her $100 and my mom basically told me it was a cheap gift and I should have done better.
To this day they still bring up how wrong I was for missing my sisters graduation to go to a funeral. Was I wrong?
