I locked my daughter in the car!!

I have always been judgmental of people who do this!! And I can’t even stand to think of people who “forget” the kid in the car!! That’s just beyond me!! But the ones who start the car and close the door, close the door with the keys at the car seat.. I always thought “how could you not be aware!!!”

Well I take extra precautions, when I load groceries, I leave the trunk and driver side open while I take the cart back.. I’m in Florida so you HAVE to start the car first to get the AC going...

the other day was a little different.. while walking into the store there was a man eyeing me and my kids down.. mind you, in my area we JUST had 2 attempted kidnappings (one 7 year old girl and one 5 year old boy) both at grocery stores.. anyways, as soon as I saw him I got a bad feeling, so I immediately tell my son “you don’t let go of my hand!” I go in and continue with my list.. I notice same guy is on every aisle and not even being discreet about staring at us.. so my long weekly list turns into a quick grab frozen dinner and let’s go NOW!!!

Go to my car, help my son get in (he is 6 so he normally gets in by himself), strap my daughter in, lock the doors, put the groceries in the front seat.. and take my keys with me and lock the doors as I put the cart away... I return, get in, lock the doors.. go!

Well today, I had to do some more shopping.. just with my daughter today.. I’m still on edge so I get her in, put the groceries in the front quickly and go to return the cart! Well I get back to see my auto lock has locked!! And my keys are not in my hand!! Neither is my small purse!! I freak out!! I am looking inside, sure enough!! My keys are sitting by my daughters carseat in the spot I put them in the one time I didn’t start the car first!!!! And my phone was in the stupid small purse!!! I immediately start screaming bloody murder!!! Thankfully, there were a few cops at the store (who my 1 year old daughter actually been flirting with the whole time) and they had some sort of contraption that unsealed a window and got me in quick..

the whole ordeal lasted about 2 minutes but felt like a lifetime!! The cops were super kind to me about it and said how sometimes when you fall out of routine just once, it messes it up completely..

so yeah, never judging anyone again until I hear the full story!!
