Do/did you pump overnight when not overnight nursing?

My son is 7 months and just started sleeping through the night (wahoo!) but now I'm waking up uncomfortably engorged. Wondering if I will always be engorged overnight and if my supply will be affected if I don't pump. Thank you all!

Your supply will adjust to what you need that means it can go up or down based on how often your baby nurses. So if baby nurses less at night, you will make less at night, but the same amount during the day. It’s based on the supply/demand model.  So yes, after a little bit, you will no longer be uncomfortable engorged at nighttime. And no, your daytime supply won’t be affected. You can wake to pump if you want to build a stash if you’d like. But if you’re wanting to just be comfy at night finally, then don’t do a whole pumping session or you’ll just be signaling your body to keep making more milk at night. You can hand express a bit for comfort if you need to.

I pumped once before going to bed the 1st week our little girl slept through the night. After then my milk regulated and I didn’t need to pump again. I didn’t have any supply issues.

No. I allowed my body to adjust accordingly. It was a couple nights of engorgement and I’ve been fine ever since. She still feeds 5 times during the day and zero at night
