How to use WIC card?

I got my card yesterday and nobody explained how to use it 🙄
Do I give it to the cashier before scanning it after?
Can I use it at self checkout? 
Do I need to do separate orders for wic covered items and not covered items?

Look up your state wic rules, and download the app! Some stores require your purchase to be separate, but others don't. I like doing all of my wic stuff first just to be sure I didn't grab too much baby food or the wrong item. You use it as a debit, it should have a pin and if it doesn't call the number on the back of the card. That number will also tell you your balance. More stores label wic approved items, but the app also has the option to scan the barcode and see if it is. THAT DOESN'T MEAN ITS APPROVED FOR YOU. It just means that it's a wic item.

You do NOT have to hand the cashier your card, and you do NOT have to separate your orders. I was told to put everything on the belt, scan my WIC card, scan food stamps if I had them, then pay for the rest with cash or some other form of payment. And yes, you can use it at a self checkiut.

Download the Wic app! It’ll tell you what’s covered and what isn’t! 😬 And how much stuff you have left. 
For me, the card is sorta like debit. I swipe, put my pin and does its thing to cover what it can.
