Chest X-ray while pregnant?

Hey! I’m 11w5days and I’m having a cough and trouble breathing and I want to go to the doctor but I’m worried they’ll wanna do an X-ray of my chest?? Is this safe? Maybe as long as I cover my baby with a shield? Anyone have Any experience with this? I’m a FTM and I’m skeptical of everything. Advice is so welcome!

They don’t have to do a chest X-ray. If they order one you can refuse it because you’re pregnant. Xray are most harmful during the first trimester and even shielding isn’t guaranteed protection. I’ve worked in xray for over 15 years and try to always discourage pregnant women from X-ray’s.

I don’t think they will do an x-ray if pregnant. I fell and they wouldn’t do an extra to confirm. I was about like 6.5 weeks and finally went into doc at 8weeks when my arms wasnt feeling better. They wanted to see if it may have been fractured but decided not to X-ray because of baby. So they will try and find an alternative or they should. But I would not let them X-ray.

You can refuse. I also work as an Xray tech and discourage pregnant women from getting X-rays. They can probably diagnose your cough without the Xray
