How did your August baby adjust to a new sibling?

We are expecting our second son mid-November and I'm super nervous on how my toddler is going to react. He has no idea what is coming. He knows his brother's name and kisses mommy's belly every night, but he also thinks he has a brother in his belly 🤣
I'm worried about the jealousy. I almost feel guilty. My son is still very dependent on me. My husband will be working out of state for who knows how long after the birth, so it's all on me to figure out. How did your toddlers adjust?

I just had my second baby almost 2 weeks ago. So funny because my daughter thought her brother was in her belly too. The first few days were awesome. She ran over to him in the hospital and she loved on him and even when we got home. She wanted to hold him all the time, which we let her with our help. But then after a week she started showing signs of jealousy. Just being over emotional about every little thing. Wants a binky like her brother, wants a diaper change when he gets one. She even walks around saying ‘ IM THE BABY’. And bedtime has become a disaster. Taking us more than an hour every night to get her to sleep, to the point she is delusional. She gets up every hour or two also when she hears the baby. We have resorted to letting her sleep in our bed come 3/4 in the morning. Before my son it used to be just me and her for everything. She’s my little bestie, so I know it’s hard to see me being so attentive to a new human.

My big has a 7 month old little sister. At first it was HARD! My big just wanted to be held and loved on. I still feel like I missed a lot of newborn snuggles from my little because she would get jealous. Nights were difficult.  The baby would wake the toddler up and we'd all be on my bed and the big one just played there and watched and cried waiting for me to lay the little one down do she could snuggle me. Now its not so hard. She's still not the biggest fan of her but she'll love on her and sing to her if she's crying.  She tries to hold her bottle but she screams at her if she grabs her toys. There's still some jealousy but it's getting better. Good luck mama!💛

Mine are 18 months apart and the beginning was really HARD! However, they love each other so much and will have A built in best friend for life. After my youngest turned about 3 months things got easier and we were in a good routine!

I had my second baby in May. My oldest son adjusted very well, though he wasnt even 2 yet. He wanted to help with him a lot which was sometimes a lot to deal with but he didn’t know any better. I didn’t notice any jealousy. I had a c section and when my oldest wanted me to pick him up I would just get down on my knees and hug him and comfort him like that, he never even noticed I wasn’t actually holding him. That was the best thing because he wasn’t jealous that I could hold his brother and not him.

Mine are 22 months apart and they seriously love each other sooo much! My 2 year old (Summer) asks for the baby first thing in the morning and when she wakes from her nap. She already looks after her so well, she is a protective and concerned big sister.  Big sis can also make little sister laugh better than anyone else! 
But it is very exhausting at times. I have to remind myself my 2 year old is still a baby too and she needs lots of extra love at times. She def went through the whole “baby” thing when Fiona was born. She wanted the baby toys, she wanted to nurse again, sit in the baby car seat/ play mat, etc. She’s pretty much over that, but still often wants any toy I give the baby.  Summer is mostly gentle with her, but can get a little rough (hugging too strong, laying her whole body on Fiona,) and it usually happens when she is tired. It is very challenging when they are both tired or hungry, patience is a must! The worst...my 2 year old hates it when her sister cries! Still!! Sounds sweet, but it’s horrible. “No Fiona cry, no Fiona cry!” We’ve been working on that since day one.  At rides are hell at times bc of it! Maybe play some audio of crying babies for your toddler. Lol. Congrats, best of luck and enjoy it; it’s a beautiful thing!

We’re due with baby 2 in a month and I’m thinking it’s going to be either awesome and easy or a total nightmare (probably a mix of both). My daughter has been SO MOODY lately and it’s already so hard dealing with her. Like she’s doing a lot of “baby” behavior lately, so I anticipate that’s just going to get way worse once there’s a real baby here. But hey maybe she’ll surprise us and be super mature... (not likely 😂😂😂)

My 2 year old has a 6.5 month old sister, he’s sometimes really happy about it and other times, really unhappy... he doesn’t like sharing with anyone, especially not her. He listens really well when we tell him to be gentle, but he has hit her a few times and he yells at her a lot. He goes through phases though. Sometimes he will be really sweet to her and give her hugs and kisses and tell her he loves her and other times he will yell at her and scream and cry when she cries. The biggest thing he struggles with is when she cries, he doesn’t like it at all and that’s when he will try to hit her or he will scream at her. I think most toddlers would handle it similarly, so try not to stress and just be as prepared as you can be for what’s to come. Try to stay as patient as you can with both babies and it will help keep them both calm. There will be moments and days, but it’ll all work out and tome flies by so fast! Good luck!

My son was much younger when we had his brother, but he took to it very well. He loved him so much! Would get him a bottle. Would love to sit on the floor and shake toys him. 
But now it's so hard. Because baby brother doesn't walk yet, and all the fun stuff he wants to do doesn't quite work with baby. He wants to have run around with me, and I can strap baby onto me but I can't bend over, I can't pick him up, we have to do activities that are baby proof. I have to take awake certain toys from toddler so that baby doesn't choke on say hot wheel cars. I hunestly think it would be a million times harder to have a newborn now that they are older.
I don't want to scare you lol. This is just our experience. I just keep reminding myself that it gets better. And they will have a sibling for the rest of their lives.  Just keep him involved in taking care of baby. Make sure you get one on one time with toddler.
