Gestational diabetes ?

My doctor just called me after some blood tests we did yesterday and said my sugar was a little passed the cut off point for gestational diabetes. I’m still new to this and should take time to research it but I just have a few questions that hopefully you ladies could answer. Would this mean I would have to be induced early ? I’m going to be 27 weeks on Saturday. What are the chances I’ll actually get type 2 diabetes? I think that’s it for now. Any information would be really appreciated. I never had this with my son and I ate a lot more when I was pregnant with him. I’m having a baby girl now and I’m barely eating, I’ve lost 15 pounds since I got pregnant. Was this just the one hour test or the 3 hour test? If the one hour they should have you do the 3 hour first before definitely saying you have gestational diabetes. You do not always have to be induced due to GD. Usually, people with GD are induced due to large babies (which measurements can be off), the other reason they are induced is because sugars are not being well managed. If you do have it, sometimes it can be managed with diet change, sometimes you need insulin, it all really depends on your body. As for the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes I don’t have an answer for you, sorry. My cousin was diagnosed with GD during her first pregnancy and was pressured into a c-section due to “large baby” he was estimating around 10lbs....he came out a normal 7lbs and some change. She was PISSED!!! But it definitely shows how far off the measurements can be.

A lot of people fail the one hour and pass the three hour. Don’t worry too much yet.

GD has nothing to do with what you eat during pregnancy. It’s how your body handles the hormones and your placenta filters. So what you’ve done with your others vs this pregnancy doesn’t matter (so you can put that thought away.) 
I had GD with my first. Diet controlled. Was induced at 40+3 for pre eclampsia that day. If you’re able to get numbers under control, there’s no reason you should have to deliver early. 
(If diagnosed. Many people get ultrasounds once a month to monitor baby’s growth).

I had GD with my last baby. My blood sugar was completely controlled by diet. They wanted to indu e early but I declined. GD can cause large babies if blood sugar is uncontrolled.  Since mine was controlled and my babies tend to me large anyways (largest was 9lbs 10oz) I declined induction.  I delivered all naturally at 39+5.  Between 6 and 8 weeks postpartum,  I took another glucose test to make sure that I didn't have type 2 diabetes.
