When opening gifts/cards in front of people (birthday/baby shower) do you read the cards out loud?

Ive always wondered if its rude to not read cards out loud when opening gifts in front of a crowd. I remember as a child I would always have to read the card out loud and most kid birthday parties I've been to the child reads the card out loud. But at baby showers and what not I feel like adults dont read the cards anymore. Side question, is it rude not to read the card aloud?

I would never read a card out loud, I have never heard anyone read a card out loud at any birthday party or baby shower. I would be uncomfortable if they did, cards are personal and for the person getting them not for everyone at the party.  I would honestly be a bit taken back if someone was reading each card out loud.

I think it depends on how big your shower is. If it's a small shower & you like to read the cards out loud, then go for it. Mine was 75 people so it would have taken a ridiculous amount of time to read them all outloud. I just skimmed the card before opening the gift, said this present is from ___, then handed my card to my friend who was in charge of writing down what gift came from each person (I put it on the back of the card so I had the name/gift together in one place). If it was something particularly funny or sweet that I thought everyone should see, then we passed it around. Hope that helps!

I didn’t even open the cards. I put them all together as I came across them and thanked whoever gave the card.
