Baby touching his ear

What are some other reasons baby would be more irritable lately and touching/grabbing his ear? He also will clench his gums sometimes. I took him to the doctor today to check for an ear infection and his ears were clear. She also looked at his gums and said she didn’t feel anything yet but felt the roughness and saw the spot where his canine tooth may be coming through? But said she didn’t feel anything yet so who knows when it will. I’m just at a loss at what may be bothering him these past few days.
