How do baby shoes work?

I think I need to get my guy some shoes to keep his feet warm.  It's getting cold here and socks just aren't cutting it.  I put him under a blanket in the car but he takes it off with his socks.  Do shoes help with this? 
Do you get the soft sole kind still?  He fits in socks 12-24months.

We got this for him, they are awesome! Sometimes his feet sweat but it makes it so much easier for him to run around in his walker and climb. We also got a pair of velcro mock adidas shoes.

We use Robeez instead of socks because they actually stay on.  LOL

We are loving our shoes from starry knight design. You can add a removable insert for extra warmth. Most of the shoes are girly but their loafers would be great for boys and super cute!

You'd have to shop around. I'd look for used ones. We have to use hard sole shoes because his feet don't fit in the soft shoes but I take them off when we get home and he starts crawling around.
