Baby led weaning question

Ka

Hey y'all, I'm on the baby led weaning FB group and I originally was not super comfortable with it, BUT I've been leaning in that direction the past few weeks since he's showing more and more interest in eating real food (and pushing away the spoon). I find the finger-length strips of food really help him with grasping and also learning to chew and bite off small pieces.

My question is... and I'm sure you ladies get this all the time. They have very clear posts on what are choking hazards. But my mom flipped when she saw I fed my baby a banana (whole with the skin on so he could grab it). She said my sister choked on banana as a baby. And on top of that I look at other sites (non BLW), who say that everything should be diced small to avoid choking hazards. Even the skins on grapes and tomatoes are choking hazards. I guess I don't really have a real question, I'm just so conflicted and tempted to just feed him smaller chunks of food even though his pincer grasp isn't the best. Thoughts? How do you guys overcome the choking fear? Or is anyone on here having success with small chunks of food?
