If your planning to breastfeed should you have a can of formula on hand just in case?

I’m scared one night baby wont latch right or maybe I won’t be producing enough milk. If I do
Need a can of formula, how do I pick one? There’s so many different kinds and brands

Nope, no formula will be bought (free samples are illegal here, because unlike the US we follow the WHO guidelines for formula) 
The first weeks may be rough, but having formula just in case can make it too easy to just give some and again create an evil cycle.

I always want to breast feed full time. But really I end up w bottles.. just try and go s far as u can.  And if can't then can it jejejej..

You may want to bring one. My best friend’s milk didn’t come in and the nurses were so rude about breastfeeding they refused to give formula to her. Her baby ended up losing a dangerous amount of weight and getting very sick. Yes, breast milk is ideal but FED is best, I’d bring it just in case you get crazy nurses.

I got free 2 full sized samples from everyday family as well as 4 on the go bottles . I’ve been breast feeding so far but my baby eats 1-2 hrs instead of 2-3 so my body isn’t catching up fast enough with the amount of time he feeds so I’ll be adding in formula to give my nips a break and to make sure he has enough. You never really know how things will go until the time starts.

I didn't produce enough milk for my 1st so we had to feed him formula and breast milk. We actually asked the pediatrician what would be a good one to use. We really like enfamil brand and will be using it for our 2nd once he is born next week. I produced maybe a total of 2oz a day of milk, that was pumping as well. We had seen a lactating nurse and she mentioned if I wasn't producing enough milk then we can use formula only, I stopped breastfeeding when our 1st was almost 4 months old.

With my first we received samples that I kept and used every once and awhile just to see how he did on formula. I was producing enough not to need it but when I stopped breastfeeding at 6 months I had been able to throw in a bottle or two of formula a week for a month just to get his belly ready for it and we never had an issue with the switch. 
This time our little girl was in the NICU and they sent us home with 8 bottles of the already made formula (similac pro-advance which is also what I fed my son) so that if it ever came down to needing some I’d have them. Again, I’m producing way more than need be. There’s no sure fire way to know if you’re going to produce enough or how your baby will latch but it is nice to have some at home just in case!
