Copper iud?

Question

Anyone have the copper iud? I'm seriously considering getting one. My body DOES NOT like any kind of hormonal birth control, I've tried various types of the pill and a hormonal iud and it's been a nightmare.  What has your experience been with it?

I got it after having my first child and had it for a little over 2yrs, then got it taken out to have another baby, which I’m currently pregnant and plan to get it again after having this baby. Overall my experience with it was good. I got it at my 6week postpartum appointment and bled for about 4-5 days after having it inserted. Then my periods came back after that despite me exclusively breastfeeding. It did make my periods longer, heavier, and more cramps than before. Before having it my periods were 4-5 days and medium flow with minimal cramps, after getting it my periods were 5-7 days and heavy flow with more cramping. I did find that switching from tampons to a menstrual cup helped with the cramping and overall made my experience with it better. In the whole time I had it there were two occasions where I completely skipped a period. But yah, I’m all for non hormonal birth control and love that we could safely not have to use condoms.

Besides my first one being dislodged which would be no fault of the iud, I have loved everything about it... you can experience heavier periods with it, and I have so far... but I honestly couldn’t tell you if that’s because I’m only 3 months PP or if it’s the iud.... I recommend it highly, it’s effectiveness is instantaneous, if you want to get pregnant you can also have it removed and try directly after... it’s also just as effective as having your tubes tied per my dr... do itttttt

I also hate hormone birth control because it makes my depression worse but my body rejected it and pushed it out a few weeks after I got it. The nurse said it happens sometimes since there are no hormones to trick your body into thinking it should be there so your body wants it gone. Now it only happens to a small number of women but I didn’t even know that was possible when I got the iud and I was very upset because it hurt like hell to get it put in and I might not have done it if I knew there was a chance it could just fall out.

I’ve had mine for 2 months and like it so far. My periods have been 1 day longer on it and my heavy day is absolutely crazy but the other days are my normal flow. The cramping during my period isn’t too bad but that was always fine for me, it’s the PMS cramping that’s always been an issue for me and that’s definitely worse with the IUD but ibuprofen and a heat pad control it so it’s not a big deal. Thing I wasn’t expecting is that I feel super extra bloated during PMS with it, straight up like my uterus is swollen. And close to my period certain positions can cause cramping like today I was baby wearing my 5 month old while I was sitting and the weight of him had my uterus hurting for a while. My doctor said he expects my periods to lighten a bit and cramps to lessen by 6 months with it.
