My retainer is cutting my tongue so bad

I got braces off 7 years ago and then had a permanent retainer put in my mouth. Nothing has changed I mean it’s not broken, there’s no new sharp pieces sticking out but for some reason it’s slicing my tongue to hell after 7 almost 8 years. There IS a sharp piece because the glue that covered it fell off but that was right after I got the retainer put on and I did go back and tell them thinking it was going to fall off but they said it’s not a problem and it hasn’t been. It didn’t ever cut me because my mouth was already so used to metal and my tongue was tougher from being sliced up by whatever the fuck they had put in my mouth behind my teeth that had metal springs in it to stretch my pallet and give my teeth more room. My tongue is bothering me like that thing is in my mouth again and I don’t get it. It’s just a single metal bar on the inside of my bottom teeth.

And I feel stupid telling a dentist “nothing is actually wrong with my retainer but it’s hurting me after 7 years.” Like? Tf? Lol

Anyone else had this issue?
