When IVf fails

My one cycle of IVF failed- I would love to do it again but we have no coverage and just dropped $22k. We won’t do it again because of the cost and I feel hopeless as I’m 40.5...

Yes, i did. I did ivf ( had 3 and only 2 fertilized) and got pregnant with a singleton, lost her due to ic at 22 weeks 3 days. About 6 months later did the whole thing again and now i am 36 weeks 6 days with a boy. It was a lot of sacrafices, tears and everything in between. I am 38. Good luck.

Do not let cost stop you. We were 80,000 in with local REs before I stumbled upon CNY, but there are a lot of other affordable facilities all over the country, even outside the country. This be last cycle for be everything we only no paid 12,000 which included my travel, meds, IVF and FET! Search around. My husband is a govt contractor in Afghanistan. We have federal insurance and guess what, it covers nothing for IVF, however I got around a lot of it( that's another convo) they did cover some IVF meds and almost all meds for FET. Have you applied for grants. My facility offers a free cycle each month to a couple, just for sharing your journey. Don't lose hope. Do some research and see what your options are. It feels so unfair...money being the barrier.  I’m in Canada and in this province you get one free cycle and then have to self-pay. But many doctors will say the first round is somewhat of a trial to see how you respond to meds, iron out any issues that come up, etc (our first round was a total flop, no embryos made it to day 3).  Failure of three rounds would be more definitive, but that is such a huge investment.  We had success in the second round after adding another medication and obtaining the sperm through microtese surgery.

There are scholarships out there that you can apply for - it takes time and research of course. This is a long shot but Starbucks covers a big portion of IVF in the US- you have to work for them for so many months and so many hours but you could start there, look up scholarships and maybe in 6 months go for another round?

You could maybe look at California conceptions? We have some friends who went through them and it is $12k for 3 transfers. But it is also donor embryos.

I’m so sorry. If you’re in the US, have you considered going abroad to do IVF? I only had partial coverage for one round, so I was considering possibly going to Barbados if this round didn’t work. I heard it’s half the price there and the clinic is supposedly good. If you do decide to do another round, I would talk to your doctor to find out what he/she would do differently next round and if you have the option, perhaps get a second and third opinion. A lot of doctors recommend supplements to improve egg quality (such as ubiquinol and DHEA), which may be worth looking into. The book It Starts With the Egg has info on supplements. If you can find the money,  it might be worth it to try again. Just because this round failed doesn’t mean the next one will too.
