My partner is a professional tattoo artist, he says it’s fine as long as everything is sterile before use. Please pick somewhere you know and trust that has a good reputation x

I personally would not but I am in PA. There is absolutely ZERO regulation on tattoo artists here. They don’t need any certification, they don’t need to prove they are properly sterilizing, they don’t even need to have blood born pathogen training (which even barbers need). My best friend was married to a tattoo artist. She had a business degree and they ran the shop together. Anyone over a certain age could walk in and ask for a job. At their shop, they made sure they had the trainings to show they were being clean but since they’ve divorced, she is still friends with someone who works there, she no longer runs it and it is pretty evident they aren’t doing everything they should be such as properly sterilizing. Even not knowing about how he runs things now, when she told me there were no requirements or legal standards for PA shops that completely turned me off of getting a tattoo. Here, I would never get one while breastfeeding and is the reason you can’t give blood within a year after getting one.
