1st FET
Our first FET is scheduled for December 16. We live in Japan and the
IVF experience was extremely different compared to stateside experiences I have read. We have seen several doctors within the practice and at my egg retrieval they got 25 eggs: 22 mature, 16 fertilized by ICSI, and 15 fertilized normal. I am 37 years old with blocked tubes ttc for several years. We were able to get 6 embryos: 1 A, 2 B, 2 C and 1 3-day embryo.
I have polycystic ovary morphology so my IVF treatment was low dose hormones. I believe my doctor did very well and I did not develop OHSS although I was pretty swollen for 7 days.
In Japan, they do not offer PGS as it is illegal. They also only transfer one embryo at a time. They aren’t allowed to do more than one. I am grateful we were able to get embryos but I am so afraid none will stick 🥺 The Japanese doctors here are very efficient and not exactly warm and supportive. I trust them implicitly but it will be awful to get bad news, but then more awful to not have any comfort. I guess I will be able to emotionally prepare as much as possible, but I’m still terrified. For most of my experience it’s been pretty quick. Everything happening almost in a haze. I have to drive 1.5-2 hours to/from the fertility clinic and it’s almost always a two-three hour wait to be seen. This is typical in Japan.
The cost is significantly less here than stateside, which is a huge plus but I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss American healthcare privacy and comfort.
I wanted to write my experience somewhere and I hope we all have a good outcome for Christmas and New Years! Sending everyone really great energy 💝
