Did antibiotics affect your birth control pill?

I’m currently on amoxicillin for a respiratory infection/sinus infection and I’m just curious if antibiotics have ever made anyone’s birth control pill not work. I’m not planning on having sex because I feel horrible but I’m just curious :) thank you for answering!

Yes they tell you before you get your birth control (or should tell you ) that once you’re on antibiotics your birth control basically stops working it cancels it out.

So most antibiotics don't effect the pill. The only one that does is Rifampin and that's a hardcore drug for a horrible disease, TB. If you had that you'd be more worried about dying than you would about getting pregnant. 
And even then, it doesn't just cancel it out like everyone says. It makes your body metabolize it faster. So usually it lasts in your body for 24 hours and then you need to take a new pill but Rifampin makes it go through faster than 24 hours so that's why it increases the risk. But the risk is still lower than if you were on nothing at all. 
Antibiotics can cause diarrhea and vomiting, etc, and if your pills failed on antibiotics it's from this not from the antibiotics themself. If you have diarrhea at any time when on the pill it can fail, not just when on antibiotics. That's why i like my faithful IUD lol

I have my 4 year old because of antibiotics for a uti😂 The shitty military ER doctor didn't tell me when he gave me the meds that my birth control would basically not work for up to two weeks after I was done with them. Ta-da!

I used to work in a pharmacy... the pharmacist ALWAYS told girls to use another form of birth control if taking the pill and taking antibiotics... use condoms if you don’t want to end up pregnant!!!!

I did but it was my first month on the pill and I took antibiotics and got pregnant and my doctor didn't tell me antibiotics would affect it .

The ones with estrogen (the combined pill) might have their efficacy reduced but supposedly only with certain antibiotics. Check with a med interaction webpage but if your doctor didn't say it was a problem it's not.
