Whats so important about the 6 week pp checkup?

Cervix check?
It feels like a waste of time to go in, tell them I feel great and that I don't want birth control. This is baby #2 and my husband and I have already had intercourse 🤷🏻‍♀️

They check to make sure that your cervix is closed and that the wound from your placenta has healed. Some women end up needing more time and having sex too early can cause infection, so they'd rather you be safe than sorry.

If you've already had sex before being cleared it would be a good idea to go in and tell them so they can check you for infection. At mine I talked about PPD issues, had a PAP, breast exam, and talked about breastfeeding and birth control. It's definitely not a waste of time and a great opportunity to ask questions about anything.

I couldnt go back to work until i was medically cleared, so thats one thing. The other is that its unsafe to have sex before you are cleared to do so. Your body has a lot of internal healing to do that you may not see or feel. If you arent cleared for sex you run the risk of hemmorage or infection.

Tbh I live in the uk, and it was a ‘mother and baby’ 6 week check, they gave my baby a full body check and for me they literally just asked if I had any signs of ppd and then refered me for birth control (which they didnt even do that right, they sent me the wrong info) pretty pointless for me to even go, but that’s just my experience

Just wanna say I love that you’ve already had sex because I’m thinking about doing it at the 4 week mark. My discharge nurse said I only had to wait 4 weeks. You know your body best, and this isn’t your first go around! More power to ya 😉 
Just out of pure curiosity- did you use a condom? That’s what my husband and I are planning on doing because I don’t want hormonal BC to affect my milk supply. Does the risk of infection come from the man’s cum? Or what’s the actual risk factor???

I honestly didn’t even go because I hated my ob. My friend didn’t go because she thought it was a waste of time. Here we are and we’re both fine. We both waited to have sex a little after the 6 week though because it is painful.
