Swing or no swing?

Question

I’m expecting my second son in a few weeks and unsure of what swing to get, if any. We used the rock n play all the time when my first was young and I needed to do laundry or the dishes or something. However, it’s obviously been recalled. I have a 17 month old & just feel like a place to set the new baby down would be helpful, but I’m also worried about getting the new baby used to rocking & stuff when sleeping. I’d like to sleep train ASAP & plan to put the new baby down as much as possible as my first is still being rocked to sleep and is still in my bed. I don’t want to do this another 17 months lol. We have the pack n play with the changer/sleeper so we can use that for a small period until the baby can roll. Any recommendations?

Depends on the kid. I had swings for my kids, but both of my kids hated swings. It was such a waste of money for me.

I used an infant to toddler rocker that you could make vibrate and play music. It was easily moveable and helped me be hands free when necessary.  Also had toys you could attach when baby was old enough.

Both my babies loved their swing. My first had colics snd reflux and being inclined helped, as well as he had to use the bili blanket and having it on the swing was easy for us.  My swing (graco) you can remove it from the stand and take it anywhere, it also plays music, white noice and swings in 2 directions.  It was a life saver for both my kids. I would get it and see if it works for you, and if not return it. Or buy used on letgo or facebook market place.

Our swing was fantastic. It was used daily for 7 months until baby rolled out of it. Hahaha 
Swings 2 ways, plugs in, has the mirror and mobile.

My son is 9 months old now so we’ve had to retire the swing, but he loved our Graco dream glider. We received a mama roo as a gift, and he liked that, but once we put him in the dream glider he would never go back in the mamaroo for more than a few minutes.

I have a swing that doubles as a rocker and honestly we never used the swing. Maybe a couple times. My son just didn’t like it. But what we do is we put him in the rocker, turn the vibration on and we just rock it with our foot and it puts him to sleep.

All 3 of my babies loved the swing. For me it was essential as it was a place where I could put baby and make breakfast, clean up etc. 
I recommend the fisher price cradle and swing. I think babies prefer the side to side swinging.

I can only speak to what worked well for us but we used the pack and play from day one for all naps and at night. We used the bassinet level until she could roll and then lowered to the lower level until we moved her to her crib in her room at 8 months old. We definitely never let her in the bed with us because I was terrified we’d roll over on her... my husband sleeps like a rock. Our master is right off the living room so I would just drag the pack and play out and around with me if I needed her to nap while getting things done. 
We too had a rock and play with her, as well as a basic bouncer, so she would sometimes fall asleep in those and because it was before the recall I didn’t realize it could be dangerous so I’d let her sleep in them too but won’t this time. I will utilize the bouncer still when this new baby is  awake so he can be more upright and alert but definitely won’t be letting him sleep in it. I also know they make a flat bassinet that still has the rocking feature the rock and plays had, so I may get one of those for the living room, or a second pack and play, so I don’t have to drag mine around with me anymore. 🤷🏻‍♀️ we’ll see
