Newborn baby fever: go to hospital?

Question

Our baby has a fever of 101.0 (armpit), or 101.6 (rectal). Do we go to the emergency room? We are getting conflicting advice from our two doctors.

Any temperature rectally of 100° or more warrants a doctors visit/emergency room visit. My doctor told me that having a temp of 100 is not necessarily Dangerous for the baby, but it is can And is usually the only sign that your baby may be struggling with something far worse.
