Are white noise machines bad for kids?

My mother in law just told me that white noise machines are bad for kids and not to use them anymore. I’ve been using it for my son since he was a baby, he’s now 14 months. I find it helps him sleep...but now I’m worried.

What was her reasoning as to why they are bad? I’d like to know her rationale and where her information comes from.

I read an article that tested the pitch of sound machines. All tested above the recommended range for infants which could potentially lead to hearing issues and language or speech problems.

You should read the happiest baby on the block. The sound level in the womb is so high that’s why they need the noise maker. I’ve got one all ready to go!

Get a decibel reader. Place the machine as far away from the child as you can and keep it on a setting that’s below 70. 
My kids is at 60.

As someone else said, there were studies done on the sound pitch that can be harmful to infants. However, as long as you aren't putting it too close, maybe put a blanket over it to soften the sound it would be fine 🤷‍♀️

Your MIL has poor information. Just make sure it’s an appropriate decibel for your baby
