Anybody know how twins work?

Question

My boyfriend is an identical twin and my dad is an identical twin. We were trying to figure out the chances of us having identical twins but we know nothing! We are unsure if it runs in families or happens by chance, if it runs on the females side of the family, etc.

it can be hereditary for fraternal twins. identical twins are more of a chance thing. however, males don't really increase the likelihood of twins, since they don't ovulate.

I have identical twin girls and my husband and I both have no history of twins in our family! Identical twins are pretty much luck of the draw where fraternal twins are genetic

Identical twins are completely by chance.  its coincidental that my husbands mother is a fraternal twin.. she swears it’s in the genes even though I try and tell her that’s not the case for identical.

Anybody know how twins work?
