Hi everyone. I am almost 12 weeks (EDD is June 6) and my doctor suggested I do the NIPT if it’s covered through my insurance (she said I can find out gender too!) so I began the process by contacting my insurance (blue shield). Everything seemed ready to go until last week when I called to verify that everything was ready for my appt on Nov 26 and turns out there isn’t any authorization nor approval ready for me. My insurance says it’s covered but I need an authorization from my doctor. I called my doctor and they said they do not do any kind of authorizations nor referrals for this test as they do not have a code for it. So I reached out to Panorama Natera which is the company that tests the bloodwork and tried to get a pre-authorization with them. They said I need to submit copy of insurance card (front/back) and a requisition form from my doctor. I called my doctor and they said they can give me a requisition form but not until the day of the blood draw (nov 26) but I do not want to submit anything IF it won’t be covered. I am so confused. I’ve made a million calls to my insurance, my doctor and now the company that tests the bloodwork and I’m so frustrated that everyone is giving me the runaround. Help!? How did u ladies do this test?
