Planning RhD- vaccine after home birth?
Hey all. šš» Just wondering if thereās anyone here whoās been in this same situation.
Iām 32+2 with my first, and I have RhD- blood, but we already know my baby is RhD+. This means I will need a vaccine straight after birth to try to prevent sensitisation (or, within 2-3 days maximum, but the sooner the better).
This would not be an issue for hospital birth mothers, but Iām trying to plan a home birth. The idea of leaving my baby at home whilst I go to a doctor, so soon after giving birth, fills me with emotional pain. I donāt really know how to plan it.
My husband and I donāt want anyone else involved with the birth apart from my midwife (and her second midwife). Our extended family live over 500km away and weāre not so close to them that we would want them around straight after the birth. So, obviously, the only options are that either my husband stays behind with the baby, and I ask a kind neighbour or my midwife to take me to the doctor, or my husband and I go together to the doctor, and we take our baby with us. Maybe husband and baby could just stay in the car? I donāt want to unnecessarily expose baby to an environment full of sick people.
I have to add that Iām in a country where I donāt speak the language, so I canāt go to a doctor on my own. I need someone who will come with me - not least because Iāll have just given birth! I could probably āwing itā if I knew my husband was just waiting for me outside in the car, though.
What would you do? Anyone else been through this logistical/psychological nightmare? How does a newly made mother leave her child for even a second?? Iām very anxious about his.
