Children calling parents by 1st name
This isn’t a huge controversy or anything but I was having this conversation with a friend. She calls her parents by their first names. Since were in our 30’s I didn’t think much of it. But was curious and asked when she started to use her parents first names to address them, she said she always has! Her parents never wanted to be called, “Mom” or “Dad”.
So I asked my kids about it. I asked if they’d rather call me by my first name. (My youngest asked what my first name is 😂😳) They told me it would be weird and they wanted me to be Mama. Not Brooke.
I talked to several overs about this and got various answers. I guess addressing parents by their first names shows a high amount of respect and adulting. Others said it was really rude and a way to down talk/mock their parents.
The only time I’ve called my mom, Patti.. is when I’m telling someone else her name. If I’m trying to joke and sas her, I’ll call her Patti. And if I’m really feeling goofy and like irritating her, I’ll go full force, Patricia, on her 🤣.
