Membrane sweep?

Can someone explain to me what they do for this? If it hurts? What it’s supposed to do? I keep seeing posts but I’m clueless.

I’m 38+5 and I just had mine done this morning at my dr appt. I never had it done with my first cause I wasn’t dilated enough. I was 1cm dilated and she stretched it to 2cm. I would say it’s more uncomfortable than it is painful but I’m at home relaxing now and having a ton of cramps so I’m hoping it works!

39+1 weeks and i had a membrane sweep this morning. i was 4 cm dilated already so we decided to do the sweep! 
i definitely thought it hurt but everyone is different. 
having regular/consistent contractions now for the last couple hours. they seem to be getting more intense too so hopefully this worked!! 
FTM and i am all over the place with emotions, so so so so scared for labor but i am just so excited to meet my little girl. 💓

What the previous comment says. My doctor also mentioned it more effective if it’s your 2,3,etc baby. I haven’t had one yet. But I will in another week. Hoping it works!

It can hurt but it’s mostly uncomfortable. Doc puts two fingers into your cervix and ‘sweeps it’ to break the membrane from the amniotic sac. Suppose to help induce labour.

Had my first sweep of this pregnancy last week at 38+4, just had another at 39+4 today. Really hoping it works and I go into labour on my own! I was super late and induced with my first.
