how do they check your cervix?

This is probably a dumb question but my doctor said he is going to start checking my cervix for dilation/effacement next week. I should’ve asked at my appointment today about it but I’m curious how it’s done and if it hurts at all?

They’ll have you sit at the edge of the table and put your feet in stirrups. Then your doctor will insert his middle and pointer finger and feel your cervix. It can be uncomfortable but it doesn’t hurt and is over pretty quickly.

Similar to getting a pap smear. They use a speculum & feel around.

So, mine definitely hurt like hell. It felt like a cactus was shoved up into my vagina, but I do know everyone is different. I just wish someone would’ve told me that it’s a possibility for it to hurt so I knew what to expect going in. I’ve also been told you’re swollen down there especially if the baby is head down which can cause the discomfort.

you will take your pants/underwear off and lay down on the bed and let your knees fall, the doctor will than use 2 fingers to insert into your vagina and feel your cervix.

They use their hands. I just had it happen today, it wasn’t painful, more so an uncomfortable feeling, since they have to reach all the way up there. But it’s really quick
