Winter car seat cover for coming home?

Can you bring baby home from the hospital with a JJ Cole winter car seat cover? Or do you think it’s better to just put blankets on baby for first time coming home? And then put the cover on the car seat once we’re home

Found this one online at Walmart for a great price. I already have it on the baby carrier, ready to go. I figured we will be leaving the house on and off this winter so didn’t want to invest in something too expensive. Has good reviews. I am planning on using it for our trip home from the hospital.

We’ve got a similar cover and I’ll bring a blanket - we are in MN and it’s gotten pretty cold here recently.

We will use the cover it’s already on the car seat and will stay still after winter.

We live somewhere very cold and that sort of lightweight cover wouldn’t be enough. I got a winter bunting from North Face, a knit hat to go under the hood, and we will bringing a couple heavyweight receiving blankets to put over the carrier while we transfer from the hospital to the warmed car or vice versa into the house. 
But that’s sort of extreme for most people and places. I’ve seen infographic charts online listing how many layers and of what based on temperature and that might be a hood place to start!
