How do you grieve after an abusive relationship?

I just left my abuser and I am struggling with the grieving process... I don’t know what to do, what are some tips to help me through this?

Therapy. I left my abuser 6 years ago. I'm currently married to a wonderful man and have a child. But the oast has been really messing with me. Flashbacks. Nightmares. Anxiety. Diagnosed PTSD, anxiety, and agoraphobia. Makes me wish I had started therapy before it got so out of hand. I thought I was handling it well enough on my own. That was not the case.

I left 1.5 years ago and it is still hard. Some days I still miss him and want to go back but I have a daughter now and just remind myself that I left for her and to keep her safe and I couldnt risk going back to that and putting her at risk. I definitely reccomend counseling. It is such an emotional process and so important to work through all of those feelings. PTSD is real and can totally debilitate you so getting ahead of that is important. Most of all just know how proud you should be. Leaving is one of the hardest things you can do. Stay strong and don't go back.

It’s normal to still care or love that person cause it doesn’t go away overnight but it’s not ok to put your hands on people or even mentally. You are strong for leaving & should be proud of yourself because you realize you deserve better. Cry it out. Go out with friends & family to keep your mind off things. Basically Stay busy & find things you enjoy doing. It will be hard & depressing but you got this don’t turn back people like that don’t change without help & sometimes that doesn’t work either.

Honestly the only thing to ever help me was counseling. A lot of it! Take care of yourself and everything else will fall into place!
