How to leave my abuser?

Long story about the abuse, but I’ve had enough of it. We’re taking a family trip with his in-laws back to my home state, and I don’t know how I should tell them that I am staying back home with the kids and not going back without harassment, threats, repercussions, etc from any of them. They enable the abuse and he is an addict. please guide me through this.

Call a womans shelter! They can help you, they can send you to a shelter temporarily so that he cannot find you, or access your kids. I would literally just disappear, wouldn't tell them anything. Notify the police you are escaping an abusive situation as well in case he tries to make a report. Even if you choose not to stay in a shelter, still contact one because they can connect you to so many resources to help.

Do you have people to stay with when you visit? Don’t tell them until you’re there and somewhere safe. Be prepared for the worst and know you are doing what’s best. Honestly I wouldn’t tell them in person. I sobbed to two members of my ex’s family about him hurting me physically and mentally and they just ignored it or told me God wanted us to be together. I get how that goes.
