Is this normal

My periods have always been painful but after having my daughter 3 years ago they have been even more so. This month particularly I don’t think can be normal, it’s like having contractions. I can barely even move. The cramping only lasts the first day of my period but that day is agony. Is this even normal? We have been trying to conceive second baby for 8 months with no luck so I can’t help wonder if something is wrong.
