Length of sleep at nighttime
Hi mamas! Wondering about your baby’s stretches of sleep for those of you that are also around 10/11 weeks. My baby is 10.5 weeks and weighs probably almost 12 lbs now. Her sleep has always been pretty inconsistent. She has done 5-6 hour stretches several times, but very scattered over time. Otherwise she sleeps for about 3-4 hours for her first stretch of the night. Tonight for example, she napped better than usual during the day, and I had a feeling she would sleep well overnight. She ended up starting to wake up after only 2 hrs 45 mins of sleep. I was able to buy another hour by rocking/swiveling the bassinet a bunch of times because I could tell she wasn’t fully awake, although she was tossing around and making noises. So she ended up staying “asleep” for another hour... meanwhile I was pretty much awake for that hour trying to keep her asleep. I’m wondering what it is that wakes her body up! Often times it’s because she’s pooping, which makes sense but today that wasn’t the case. I don’t think she’s gassy because she just didn’t seem to be. And I know she’s not super hungry because she has gone much longer stretches and was totally fine. We use a sound machine and she is swaddled with a Halo sleep sack swaddle. Im debating trying a Nested Bean or Love to Dream Swaddle Up to see if it makes a difference. I wish I could get her to stay asleep for a longer first stretch but I just don’t know why she’s waking up! I thought by week 10, she would be consistently sleeping better. I know every baby is different and I’m thankful for any stretch of sleep but if anyone has any advice or thoughts, I’d love to hear it!
