Paranoid ?? 20 week scan

Just had my 20 week scan, and I felt like they spent a long time looking at the babies heart. I left feeling like something was wrong. I asked both the tech and the Dr. and they both said everything looks good but something tells me there may have been something wrong. This is my double rainbow baby so I know I am extremely paranoid but just curious if anyone else had a lot of time spent looking at the heart

They wouldnt lie to you. Mine was the same way, they spend a lot of time taking a ton of measurements during that appt

As a mom and an ultrasound tech, I can tell you, they would not let you leave that doctors office without telling you anything. The tech scans the heart at every angle and makes sure everything looks good. I have never been in your situation but I definitely get the nerves on this one when it comes to keeping the screen on one thing. I get nervous too. Stay positive momma.

That’s normal, they have to take a ton of photos of the heart.

They spent a good 30 plus minutes total on just the heart and then the doctor came in and looked herself. This is the scan that they can really get a good look so it is a big focus point. If they had seen anything concerning they would have for sure told you then. Rest easy momma. It’s normal for them to be looking so much. I swear the tech took the same kind of pic 20 times lol. I was laying there thinking we know what it looks like lol.

That’s what they want to see! They definitely spent the majority of the time looking at the heart at mine as well! But the ultrasound tech told me that would be the case beforehand.

They did the same with my son! I asked questions though & they were happy to explain. They spent a good 15ish minutes on his heart, even went back once. He was supppper active and not in the ideal position to see the “closing” of all 4 ventricals. They only saw 3. They couldn’t see that the 4th was shut but once he calmed down a bit we could very clearly see it! Maybe your little one just wasn’t cooperating. I’m sure if they spent that long and ended up not seeing what they wanted to they would’ve told you & sent you to some type of second opinion. But if it’s bothering you then call them and just ask for a little explanation for some comfort. Never be afraid to ask 💜

At mine they couldnt even get a good picture of the heart and I had to go back for follow up. The tech tried a few different angles but I was told to return in a week. At the 2nd ultrasound the baby happened to be breech (she was head down during the first), and the tech had no issues getting pictures. It took a while because they take images at multiple different angles. It all ended up being normal. I wouldn't worry!

If there was something wrong they would tell you. They’re supposed to take a long time looking at every organ, and taking measurements, looking at blood flow, etc. totally normal. 🥰
