Hair dye recommendations

I’m 16 and wanting to dye my hair purple. I’m not allowed to go blonde, but I still really want to put colors into my hair. The problem is that a couple times when I tried to color my hair, it just turned almost black and you couldn’t really see the color. Are there any hair dye brands that will work on brown hair?

There’s my hair color if that helps any.

Edit: didn’t look at the picture too well before I put it on here, my hair is all about the color of the top part. I’m not sure why the bottom half looks a lot lighter.
