Not potty trained at all yet. 😩 anyone else ?

Question

Will be 3 in feb obviously and about 6 months ago he told me he had to go potty and went pee and poop on the potty a couple times. Now ever since he wants nothing to do with the potty doesn’t tell me when he has to go and when I try to get him to sit on the potty he melts down cry’s and throws a tantrum. I don’t want to force him. But I feel like we should be somewhat there by 3 and he’s still in diapers all the time. Should I just put him in real underwear and see what happens? He’s so smart and advanced in everything else but potty training is giving me anxiety. Help

For us it was the same - she clearly knew when she had to go (eg, she would hide behind the curtain or tell us beforehand. But when we asked her if she wanted to go to the potty, the answer was always no, despite offering her rewards and everything. So we just had to do an all or nothing approach and put her in undies from one day to the other. I told her about a week before that we were going to quit the diapers so that she would be prepared for the day. I started when on vacation in my parents house so that a lot of adults would be watching out for her.
And it worked really well. We had maybe one accident a day for the first 3-4 days and then rarely any. 
We had to give extra incentive for pooping at the beginning, so we let her watch her favorite show oh the potty, to keep her comfortable on there. 
We had little regressions here and there, but overall we’re diaper free, except at night time.

Mine was the same way, she finally made the connection early last month and it’s been good ever since. I just took the diaper off. Told her “no more diapers” (except for nap and bedtime) for her some big girl undies that she liked with her favorite characters and made a big thing about wearing them. When she had an accident she hated the feeling of it. Just have to keep trying and keep reinforcing. Also got her a reward sticker chart and she loves putting a sticker when she uses the potty. Gave her a skittle when she peed in the potty and since she was having trouble pooping (she seemed to be scared of it) I actually gave her a small toy a few times so she would see it as a positive. Don’t give up, the connection will be made just have to give it time

We just started 3 weeks ago for the second time. Ours will also be 3 in February. I read rhe oh crap potty training book and it helped a lot because I had no idea where to start. It’s so hard and so exhausting but they will get it! The book was $10 on amazon and definitely worth it. 3 weeks in and not many accidents. We’re expecting our second in January and I’m so happy we will only have one in diapers. We do use pull ups for nap and nighttime for now though. You can totally modify how you train as well.

I don’t have any advice whatsoever but my daughter still isn’t potty trained either. We’ve told her that mama and dada go potty on the toilet and one day she will too. We ask her if she wants to go on the potty and it’s always a very firm no. I wanted to potty train her in January after all the holiday commotion and before her 3rd birthday but now I’m going to wait and see how it goes. We’ll still buy everything in hopes she gets more excited but if she still isn’t interested we might wait till she’s more ready so we don’t have to deal with all the meltdowns.

Our kiddo is the same way. He sits on the potty, but that’s about all (usually bc he knows he gets a Smartie or an M&M for sitting). We’re still plugging away, but it’s difficult with a newborn too. My husband is off during the holidays, so we are going to give the 3 naked days a try. 
Also, I’ve read and heard that boys take longer and a lot of our friend’s little boys haven’t been potty trained until the month before their 3rd birthday. I’m hoping we can be a part of that category too. Lol

I totally understand the anxiety but intelligence has nothing to do with potty training! I suggest trying to keep him in the house a few days with a little potty near at all times. Set a timer and each time he goes give a little reward ( stickers, a candy, a temporary tattoo, whatever as an incentive.) There will probably be a ton of accidents the first day or so and being stuck in the house is hard as you are literally just focusing on the potty but I say give it all your effort and see what happens. You may be surprised! Good luck.. also just remember if it doesn’t totally work out right now he won’t be going to kindergarten in diapers. Some kids just take longer. My daughter is 3 in March and having poop accidents a lot she actually regressed some. All kids are different.
