When does your milk come in?

I’ve been hearing a lot of moms say it doesn’t come in until after baby is born, but then I read about the importance of breastfeeding within the first hour after birth to help with post partum bleeding and bonding with baby. Will I be producing colostrum when baby is born? Or does that take a few days to come in as well? I know everyone is different, I’m just confused. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most women start producing colostrum during pregnancy. Some women leak and some dont. Your milk comes in 1-5 days after baby is born. Your baby will be drinking colostrum until then. This is why most babies lose weight in their first week. Nothing to be  concerned about tho. 
Breastfeeding in the first hr has nothing to do with post partum bleeding though.

It takes a couple of days for your milk to come in after birth. It took almost 4 days with my first two babies and only 2 days with my third baby. Yes, you produce colostrum and can even produce it before birth. I did with all my babies. Colostrum is all they need within the first few days of life. Super nutritious and filled with antibodies.

Colostrum should be there when you have baby. Their tummies are really tiny and it should be enough for them till your milk comes in. Milk is signaled by your placenta detaching. Nursing baby often and feeding on demand will signal milk production as well. Also remember to stay hydrated, eat as well as you can, keep taking prenatals, sleep as well as you can, and skin to skin. If baby has enough wet and dirty diapers and gaining weight at appts then they are getting enough milk 😊

You have colostrum right away, and your “milk” usually starts 2-3 days after birth. Baby only need colostrum for the first few days of life.

You do breastfeed right away but it’s colostrum, not milk. After a few days you start producing milk. Everyone is different so there isn’t a set time. Mine came in maybe a couple of days after my baby was born (like 2-3 days). Some people take longer. Until then you produce colostrum for the baby which is super beneficial to them.
