Allergic to my dog. Should I continue medicating or find him a new home?

Long post. Just need someone to vent to. I don’t have friends with dogs. 
I have had my dog for three years now. I have always knew I was allergic to him but never went to the doctor until two months ago. Test results came back. They tested 17 allergens and only dog dander came back positive. 
It started out with sneezes. Then runny nose, itchy eyes, then coughing. The last straw was when I developed wheezing. It got so bad I was waking up in the middle of the night wheezing and crying out of frustration because I would cough for at least 2/8 hours I am supposed to be sleeping. Wheezing at all hours of the day as well. I have a 20 month old son so I can’t afford to be sick like that. 
The doctor put me on steroids, gave me nasal spray and an inhaler for my wheezing. Doc said I developed an asthma to my allergy. I started taking Claritin daily, religiously but it seems to have stopped working. 
I’m ttc for baby number two and I don’t want to be on medication anymore. I also feel like it’s gotten dry down there!
He’s a 70 pound pitlab and I let my husband adopt him when we got engaged. Hubby really loves the dog but I just can’t live like this anymore. I’m thinking about finding him a new home. Should I just keep medicating? What would you do?
It just feels horrible to even think of letting my dog go. I’m conflicted.

Did your doctor suggest allergy shots? I’m allergic to my dogs too (except the asthma part) and that’s what my doctor recommended. I’ve heard they work wonders with pet allergies. And fine to do while ttc and pregnant.

Is it possible for you to have him groomed regularly and have the house deep cleaned often to help?

I would exhaust all other options before this. Continually clean linens and consider having a cleaning service come in every so often. You could also block out your dog to specific areas in the house, I.e., not in your room.

Train him off all furniture & bathe/groom frequently. My husband is allergic & doesn't even have to medicate any more because of stuff like that.

🤷🏻‍♀️ you’ve had him for 3 years already if medicating worked this long and you were fine for so long then keep him. He is your responsibility and an official diagnosis doesn’t change that

I’m very allergic to cats. I have 3 lol I love them too much to get rid of them. My body has slowly adjusted to them after having them for years and when my allergies are bad I just take medication for it. I’m also slightly allergic to dogs and we have 4 😅
I’m an animal lover and have always had them even when I was younger and my allergies were 10x worse. 
It’s too each their own though. If you really love your pup you’ll deal with it, especially because you knew you were allergic when you got it. But if you also believe it’ll be happier with someone else just make sure that person checks out and will actually take care of it!
