Why is labor such a weird thing?

Y’all, my degree is in Biology and the whole process of getting pregnant, being pregnant, and going into labor kinda frustrates my type A brain. I just can’t seem to get past the fact that nothing has occurred the way science says it’s supposed to, or that there is such a huge window of opportunity for things to occur. Two weeks ago I wasn’t dilated at all. Monday I was 2cm dilated and 50% effaced and today I lost my mucus plug. I know I can still make it till next week potentially but I could also not. I’m sitting here at work, due to our super awesome and archaic maternity leave here in the states, wondering if this is it or if I still have more time to go.

Also, super stupid but I last minute ordered SUCH a cute outfit for the hospital and I’m praying it gets here in time. LORD!!!! They don’t make this easy.
