Chronic rib pain on one side?

Haley

So here's the thing, I'm posting this looking for opinions other than I need to see a doctor. I know I do, but I do not have health insurance and I don't have the money to pay for an MRI or anything else like that, so I figured with so many people in this group, someone must either have this or knows someone who does.

Back in January, I got really sick with pneumonia. One night amongst all of the coughing, I felt a pop just below my ribcage where my diaphragm is and the pain lasted for so long that I stayed up all night crying and putting pressure on that spot. At first I thought it could be a hiatal hernia because I had issues swallowing, breathing, and moving for weeks. The pain eventually got more tolerable until it became just a back burner type muscle ache.

Then in early September, I got pneumonia AGAIN. During a coughing fit, I felt a pop in my lower right side of my ribs. Felt like a stabbing pain and then a dull ache. This popping and pain in my lower 2 ribs has not stopped. It happens when I cough, when I yawn, when I sneeze, when I laugh, and when I bend.

I googled "chronic pain in lower ribs" and the first thing to come up was something called slipping rib syndrome, where the cartilage and ligaments that hold your floating ribs in place become too loose, which causes a popping sensation or pain when moving that area.

My question to you all is, if you or someone you know has dealt with this before or had a similar muscular popping sensation in your lower ribs, what was your diagnosis (if you don't mind sharing) and what do you do to minimize the amount of pain you're in?
