Is a 4.5 month old Around Adult with Shingles Safe?

My mom took my 4.5 month old son over to her house with her husband who currently has a shingles outbreak on his back. He has it covered up, and my son was only over there for a half hour. I wasn't there so i don't know if he touched him. Should I be concerned?

My daughter got shingles from my grandpa (yes, they CAN be contagious via the fluid, 3 specialists told us so)!  What’s worse though, is because your child hasn’t had chicken pox or the vaccine yet, that’s what she could get rather than shingles.  Keep an eye out for any spots around 14 days from now.

I had shingles on my stomach and back and nursed my baby through the whole outbreak. My baby never caught it. As long as the sores were covered, everyone washed their hands, and there was no direct contact your baby should be fine.

I get shingles outbreaks and have a 2 year old so I’ve obviously been around her during an outbreak. Mine follow a nerve around my eye so I can’t cover them. My doctor said it’s the fluid if they’re oozing that’s contagious and that it’s not airborne. I am always super careful to wash my hands often when I’m around her. My daughter has never gotten them. 
If he has them on his back and they’re covered then there’s a slim to none chance your 4.5 month old will get them.
