What does it mean that my son is in the 97th percentile ?

My son is in the 97th percentile for height. He’s 16 months. What does that mean? 
Does it mean he’s taller than most kids his age? 
I guess I’m just shocked cause I’m 5’3 and his dad is 5’11.

Yep it means he’s very tall compared to other babies! He could be a quick grower then stop and be on the short side, or he can have some genes from further relatives and be tall.

Did they even out as they got older? 
My hubby and I are both avg height-5-6 and 6-0. Our 9 month old was born big and has always charted 95 percentile or more. Last 2 checkups he’s been 101 percentile for height 
Wondering how his current size will translate as he grows into a child /teen/man. Or does it correlate ?. .

It means your bub is bigger than 97% of other kids his age and smaller than 3%! I feel you - my son has always been in the 95-99th percentile since birth and my husband and I are relatively short (5'1" and 5'9"). Apparently the height gene in his family just skipped him and went straight to our son! 🤷🏻‍♀️

My “little” guy is in the 99% for his height. He’s 6.5 months old. He’s tall and wears 9-12 months clothes.(he’s quickly growing out of 9 months already 😭😳)

My son will be 16 months on the 30th. He was born 9lbs 7oz & 22 inches. & has always charted in the 99th-100th percentile for height and weight. We just had his 15mo apt & she told me he’s no longer on the charts... he’s 31 1/2lbs & 34 1/2 inches tall. 😱

It means out of 100 kids his exact age, he would be the 97th tallest one. My son is also very tall for his age and gets mistaken for a 3 or 4 year old when he’s only 2.
