First Birthday...Gifts, No Gifts, College Fund??

Hi Everyone,

I’m going back and forth with this and would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

My husband and I both come from large, split families so even a simple family party can mean a lot of attendees. We want people to come to celebrate our little ones first birthday but we just don’t need a lot of stuff. That being said, I’ve seen a few poems people have included in birthday invites saying that gifts are not expected but if they insist they could contribute To a college fund (example poem attached). This is where I’m stuck. I like the idea but still kind of feel like it might not be appropriate to include this type of info on a birthday invite. I think this isn’t terribly uncommon nowadays, and I know I personally would not be offended if this information were included with a birthday invite I received. So, what do you guys think??
