Hpv please help

So my doctor informed me today that I have a form of HPV I honestly have no clue how I got it my boyfriend and I have been together for 2.5 years I havent slept with anyone else since we've been together I'm going to tell him but I'm kind of scared to how he will react but my main question is does hpv really clear up on its own has anyone had an abnormal pap smear for Hpv than had a regular one after?
